We firmly believe natural products should be better for you—and work better, too.

"OUR STORY BEGAN YEARS AGO."

I have always struggled with extremely dry and sensitive skin that reacts poorly to many products. I tried countless high-end lotions and moisturizers and spared no expense searching for hypoallergenic, supposedly “natural” skincare products. None of them worked for me. Even the ones that seemed to help at first would eventually cause my skin to react. In the end, my only real option was to start creating my own products.

That process has taken years of trial and error, research, and courses. Along the way, I became much more aware of what goes into the products we use on our skin every day. Fragrance, and the chemicals used to create it, are found in many commercial lotions and skincare products, yet those ingredients are often not fully disclosed to the consumer.

In my products, any aroma comes naturally from the plant oils, butters, or essential oils used in the manufacturing process. No man-made, petroleum-based ingredients are used. This is very important to me, and it is something I take great pride in.

The next time you are buying a body product, take a moment to read the ingredient list. I always encourage people to take a closer look, feel confident about what they are putting on their bodies, and spend a little time doing their own research. My goal is to create natural, harmless products that are beneficial to both skin and overall well-being.

Natural, healthy, and locally made products have long been a staple in my daughter Karmia’s life, as well as her partner Dylan’s. Because of this, we decided to team up and make these products for you together.

I hope you enjoy these products as much as I have enjoyed making and sharing them with you.

The stories behind how these products came to be

We create our products with intention. Each one began with a need we saw for something better: better-for-you ingredients without compromising on results.

Eye Serum

There’s a bit of a back story to our Eye Serum. We received countless requests for one, but we were hesitant. Our goal has always been to create natural products with tangible, visible benefits—and we weren’t sure an eye serum fit the bill.

After plenty of debate, research, and testing, we launched it in spring 2024. It quickly became one of our top sellers.

Designed to help reduce smile lines, dark circles, puffiness, and inflammation, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. An unexpected bonus? Many customers say it also seems to support eyelash growth—something we never specifically designed it for!

We believe our not-so-secret ingredient, natural caffeine, plays a role. Caffeine stimulates blood flow, which can help reduce puffiness and refresh the delicate eye area.

Just one drop covers the entire eye area, so a little goes a long way.

Naturally Whitening Toothpaste

There’s that classic saying: “It’s all about performance, not appearance.” No truer statement could describe Creations by Zane’s Naturally Whitening Toothpaste.

With so many opinions surrounding oral care and ingredients like fluoride, we wanted to explore whether there was a healthier alternative that could still deliver real results.

So, we researched, refined, and created our Naturally Whitening Toothpaste using a unique combination of traditional and well-researched ingredients.

The result is a toothpaste that does more than whiten. It helps fight bacteria, remineralize, and reduce tooth sensitivity—while leaving your teeth with that smooth, clean feeling you remember after a visit to the dentist.

Happy Horse

Growing up in rural Saskatchewan, horses have always been part of our lives—from riding and wagon work to our ties with the chuckwagon community.

As we developed our natural products, we became label readers. When we looked at commercial horse insect repellents, we were shocked to find ingredients similar to those used in household insecticides, with some even carrying warnings for use around pregnant mares.

We asked ourselves: Why would you want that on your horse?

So we created Happy Horse—an all-natural insect repellent designed to help keep a wide range of insects and pests away. Field tested across Western Canada and Texas, we’re continuing to learn and welcome feedback from those who use it.

Makeup Remover

There’s a bit of a story behind our Makeup Remover. After dressing up as Captain Morgan for an event, I had my makeup professionally applied—and later scrubbed it off with soap, water, and a washcloth. The next morning, my eyes were nearly swollen shut. Lesson learned: there had to be a better way!

So, I turned to my daughter for advice, and together we created a gentle, effective Makeup Remover.

Rich in soothing, nourishing oils, it removes makeup while also rehydrating your skin and delivering anti-aging benefits. Rather than washing it off, we recommend leaving it on as an evening facial treatment.

Just a few drops on a cotton pad is all you need. And remember to shake well before using!

Common Questions About Our Natural Products

What are the active ingredients in our natural insect repellent?

My insect repellents are full spectrum, so they cover a plethora of different pests and insects, including mosquitoes, flies, and no-see-ums.

We pride ourselves on using various natural products. My insect repellent contains witch hazel, natural vanilla, lemon eucalyptus, as there are different types of eucalyptus. The best for disrupting mosquitoes and flies is lemon eucalyptus.

Tea tree oil and a special cedarwood oil I bring in from Texas have a wide range of repellency that is effective on numerous insects.

How effective are natural insect repellents?

People rarely understand how effective natural products are in so many situations, and this is definitely true with repellents, insect repellents. One of the interesting facts is the toxicity of commercial repellents. If you have a weed in your garden or your sidewalk that you can't kill with the Roundup you buy from Home Hardware, Home Depot, or Walmart, you are guaranteed to be able to kill it by applying commercial insect repellents that contain DEET, such as Deepwood's Off, etc. You will kill those pesky weeds every time, effectively. And then you realize you're putting that on your skin. It kills a weed, but you're putting it all over your body to dissuade a mosquito when you can do things naturally.

We have a 100% satisfaction rate with our bug off, and the other comment that we get all the time is people say when they come in from outside for the first time in their life after using the insect repellent, they feel no need to have a shower. In fact, the residual effect of the witch hazel, the vanilla, etc. in our natural bug sprays are actually very therapeutic and good for your skin, and people view them almost as aromatherapy.

What is the price range for natural skincare?

Most of our skin care products start in the $20 range. Our bug spray is $15, our lotions are in the $25 to $35 range.

We do have some unique products, such as our mineral mule, which is our only tallow based product at this point in time. It has high concentrations of copper peptide, which our bodies are very depleted in. And it's a very necessary element for the health of our skin and our bodies internally. And those range upwards of $50 to $90, depending on the size. But that's because of the unique ingredients, copper peptide is extremely expensive.

What are the signs of a good natural skincare business?

The best sign that we have is positive feedback and return customers. When I started marketing three or four years ago, the sales were low and slow because it was a unique product that needs explaining. And now 80% of my market sales are return customers. Our satisfaction rating is basically 100%.

There are occasions, I've had about three occasions where people didn't like the particular aroma, and it's important to note that all of the aromas in our product are a result of essential oils that we use. It is important to note that in North America, if a label says fragrance or perfume, it is considered intellectual property and the manufacturer never has to tell you what the ingredients are. And you know that the ingredients aren't good because if they were good, they would brag about the qualities of them, but they never do.

We want satisfied customers. So the signs of any good product, and especially skincare products, because it's so intimate and personal and unique to each person's body chemistry, is repeat customers and good word of mouth, and we excel at that.

How do I find a reliable natural skincare supplier?

My recommendation to finding a good product is to go to their website and look for testimonials, interact with people who've used it. You can spend millions of dollars in advertising, but that doesn't mean it's a good product. You can think back to the days when cigarette makers used doctors as their main reference to market cigarettes, and just because a doctor said that it was good didn't mean it was.

You need to talk to the people who actually use it — what they like about them, what they dislike about them, and that's the best way to find a fit for you. It's also important to note that if something fits someone else, it may not fit you — whether it's a vehicle, a home, or skin care products, everybody's skin, chemistry, environment, ambient conditions, and lifestyle vary. So you need to find the right fit for you.

But a great place to start is finding out on a personal level what's worked for others — go to a website, look for testimonials, and then if you use it and it works for you, make sure that you support that website, that product, with a positive testimonial.

When can I expect to see changes from my skincare routine?

This varies from product to product. Many people know the effects of our products within days. We have a new product coming out that is aimed at soothing skin that's affected by acne — a product like that will probably take a few weeks to see significant change. But most of our products, you will notice benefits typically within the first day or two, certainly within the first week.

Our eye serum will take longer to help with inflammation, puffiness, dark circles, but that's still one of our top sellers, with a 99% satisfaction rating. We had one customer who had only used it for a couple of days and didn't feel it was acting fast enough — but that's a product that will take some time to see the full effects.

None of our products are surgery in a bottle. They are topical and take a while, and won't make absolute miracles happen, but their benefits are very positive and very successful.

What are the common skincare mistakes to avoid?

Probably the biggest issues are two things. Most of our customers are located in Western Canada, east of the Rocky Mountains, in a very dry climate, and people ignore their skin — they just don't apply the products their skin needs. So number one is people just not doing anything.

Number two is applying the wrong things. I cannot overemphasize the need to read labels, to see what you're putting on your skin. Our skin is so absorbent that within 26 seconds of applying a product, it has already made its way into cells in our bones. So make sure you know the base ingredients.

A study involving 407,000 participants found that using commercial sunscreen gave a 292% greater chance of skin cancer than using nothing. Regular doses of sun are important to our physical and mental health — a sunburn isn't healthy, and commercial sunscreen can be classified as toxic. So knowing the product you use, having a routine, and maintaining your skin is crucial.

How does natural beard oil help with grooming?

Our beard oil is made 100% of natural oils and essential oils — no fillers, so you don't run the risk of product failure or rancidity, you're getting an extremely high quality oil that helps your beard hair. A good beard oil helps the quality of your beard hair, gets rid of dryness and brittleness, brings luster and shine, and worked in, it even helps the facial skin under your beard — an area most men ignore in their skin maintenance.

Using a beard balm and/or beard oil, depending on preference and beard type (many people use both), helps not just your beard hair but the skin underneath it.

What are the common beard care mistakes to avoid?

Probably, once again, ignoring the skin underneath the beard. It's really important to clean and maintain it, whether with a beard balm or beard oil — by ignoring it, you can end up with almost self-created skin conditions resembling psoriasis or eczema. It needs to be moisturized, cleaned, and maintained. That's probably the biggest concern — the quality of your skin and how you maintain, clean, rehydrate, and re-moisturize it.

We highly recommend both our beard balm and beard oil for that. Personally, I like the beard balm for my skin and the beard oil for my beard hair.
